Harold Cudmore’s Top 10 Places to Live in a Luxury Home and Sail
If you can tie a figure of eight with your eyes closed, dream of boats and you yearn for the sea, chances are you have toyed with the idea of moving to a luxury home somewhere where the wind is always blowing and the sun is always (or at least usually) shining.
We asked internationally famous skipper Harold Cudmore to tell us his top ten places to live and it might surprise you to learn that the top three were all right here in Britain.
10. Key West, USA
Located at the end of a chain of Floridian islands in the Golf of Mexico, Key West offers stunning scenery, great water facilities and of course, fantastic sailing.
9. Paxos, Greece.
A secluded and beautiful island that can only be reached by sea, Paxos has a selection of quaint villages and stunning harbours.
8. Auckland, New Zealand.
With harbours on both the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean, it’s no surprise that Auckland is home to so many great sailing clubs and facilities. The locals even call it the ‘City of Sails’.
7. San Tropez, France.
Come for the San Tropez regatta, stay for the beach club lifestyle and luxury homes.
8. Porto Cervo, Sardinia.
This purpose built village and marina in Costa Smeralda, combines a special style of architecture with a wonderful
setting a on a beautiful coast.
5. Perth, Western Australia.
Three words: climate, surfing, beaches.
4. Sydney Harbour, New South Wales, Australia.
An iconic harbour set in a bustling and vibrant place. Sydney’s got the full package – great cityscapes, coast and lifestyle. The modern luxury homes here are second to none.
3. Salcombe, Devon, UK.
A rural and restful summer village on the water that is also a great place to call home all year round.
2. Sandbanks, Poole, UK.
The South Coast of Dorset catches more sunshine than any other place in the UK and its winter temperatures are higher, too. If you still need convincing, Sandbanks also offers sea-views, an active harbour and lovely beaches.
If you can’t find a place to call your own right in the middle of Sandbanks, Banner’s nearby development offers two unique luxury homes in Poole.
1. Cowes, UK.
Queens Road, Cowes has arguably the most active and interesting sea-view in the world with five starting lines for yacht races and constant commercial traffic including cruise liners. It is also relatively easy to get to London by public transport from Cowes.
Each year, the famous Cowes Week regatta brings nearly a thousand boats and 100,000 spectators together for one of the largest sailing regattas of its kind. Racing is open to amateurs and professionals alike, for mostly ‘round-the-cans’ courses.
Cowes Week is as much about partying as sailing and the festival atmosphere on shore is palpable – with concerts, balls, shopping, a fireworks display and the Red Arrows. This year, Cowes Week starts on 31st July and promises to be bigger than ever. It’s unsurprising that Harold Cudmore chooses to call Cowes home.
So here’s the plug: Banner is building 14 new luxury homes that each come complete with the stunning view of Cowes and those racing starting lines you can see below.
