Banner Homes responds to the RIBA research “The Way We Live Now – what people need and expect from their homes”

New Homes Maximise Light

Banner Homes' Tettenhall development boasts large windows for natural light

Banner Homes welcomes the research carried out by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and ipsos MORI which confirms our views on many of the items that make our homes desirable. Banner is experiencing an exceedingly strong sales period, contrary to the market sentiment in some areas, and we believe that this demand is routed in our attention to detail and strong focus on the demands of our customers.

Once again, however, RIBA has produced some sensible suggestions, but with no real acknowledgement or understanding of one crucial issue which is pivotal to the delivery of any ideas relating to size and space standards. To satisfy the demand for larger spaces and larger plots for family housing, the UK must wake up to its housing shortage and be prepared to identify and release larger areas of land for new homes to be built at lower densities. Currently, there is still a little or no appetite for the release of land for new homes in many local areas and so as a Nation we continue to squeeze smaller and smaller family homes onto sites at increasing densities. Addressing this situation is a critical part of achieving much of what the current research shows is needed.

What do people need and expect from their homes?
