Banner and the environment

At Banner Homes, we continuously strive to ensure that the environmental impact of carrying out our business is minimised. Every new home is designed and built with care and consideration for the local and global environment, as well as encouraging our purchasers to live in a more environmentally friendly way and at the same time, benefit from reduced energy costs. Some examples of the measures we implement include:

  • A or B-rated kitchen appliances to reduce water and energy use*
  • Dual flush mechanisms to all toilets to reduce water use
  • A significant proportion of low energy lighting to all homes**
  • Energy efficient and thermostatically controlled gas central heating and A-rated boilers to minimise gas usage
  • Solar panels providing cheaper hot water that uses less fossil fuel
  • Air source heat pumps provide central heating using renewable energy technology to reduce the carbon footprint of the occupiers
  • Double glazed windows, providing a high level of thermal insulation and reduced heat loss
  • High levels of insulation within roof spaces and external wall cavities to limit heat loss in the winter and reduce heat gain in the summer
  • Passive infrared motion sensors to external lighting and some internal lights to reduce electricity usage
  • Provision of recycling bins to kitchen cupboards to encourage responsible recycling
  • Provision of water butts to encourage rainwater harvesting for garden watering
  • Significant amounts of recycling of waste materials and packaging during the construction of each home to reduce the environmental impact of the development
  • Provision of bat boxes to create a habitat for protected species
